Hatteras Surf Fishing

Surf Fishing

Hatteras Island is one of the most popular spots on the East Coast for surf fishing. A wide variety of fish are caught from the beach just about any month of the year, and fishing from the island's piers is also popular with many anglers. If you've never tried surf fishing, just stop by one of the island's tackle shops or fishing piers. They will be happy to help you get started and rent you equipment if you don't have any.

Charterboats run full and half-day shallow water trips that are great for families, small groups and lighter budgets. Depending on the boat and charter, you can catch Spanish and king mackerel, cobia, red drum, triggerfish, grouper and sea bass. The charter fleets departing from Hatteras enjoy the shortest trip to the Gulf Stream, compared to any other location along the Mid-Atlantic seaboard.
