The Lighthouse View Court originated in 1952 with 3 small rental efficiencies owned by Edgar Hooper and parents, AnnieM. and John E. Hooper. Over the next twelve years, the father and son team continued to manage and expand the Court to 30 units. The Lighthouse View Court became a North Carolina corporation in 1972 and the name was changed to Lighthouse View Motel, Inc.

In 1976, John R. Hooper, son of Edgar Hooper, took over the management of the motel.

He expanded the motel by building new modern units and acquiring additional land for future growth.  From 1976 to 1993, the motel doubled in the number of Hatteras rentals offered.

Most of the original units were destroyed or severely damaged in 1993 by Hurricane Emily. These units were replaced with new ones from the insurance proceeds, which are now the north side of the complex and known as the duplexes.

Lighthouse View Oceanfront Lodging is located directly on the ocean, in the village of Buxton, NC, and is surrounded by the breathtaking Cape Hatteras National Seashore. The motel is open year-round with the prime season being April through October, mainly due to the warm weather during the summer seasons.

Each generation has operated this unique vacation destination with the same philosophy: to provide families and friends with quality Cape Hatteras accommodations, a lifetime of family vacation memories, and the ultimate beach access. Whether you’re coming to Hatteras Island for one night or for multiple weeks, let our family make you feel at home on the Outer Banks.
